Smooth Your Wall With Skim Coat (You Already Have the Skill to Do it!) - Spencer Colgan
Good advice mate
Very sexy
If you have a 1” or 1.5” flexible putty knife handy you can use that as your straight edge for cutting in those intricate spots as well as to depress the paper into those crannies. Furthermore, as you know, highly saturated paper can shift as you cut it so having the straight edge pressed firmly against the paper edge can help keep it from shifting as you razor away the excess. Thanks for all of the great content Spencer. Also, in allowing me a chance to comment on your posts. I hope subscribers are getting at least half as much value as I do from your tutelage.
That is awesome… I never thought of the potty knife! I have one
What “dry” paste do you prefer/recommend for grass cloth?
Dry paste is not a paste, it’s a process method of hanging. However, some paste’s have less moisture than others.
Yes, agreed! Dynamite 234, which is now owned by the Roman Company
Legend says he still had not gotten to the point.
Thank you for the morning laughter… That was a good one
its lovely, plus it looks very tedious ..
No they are stainless steel, and look just like the picks the dentist uses, except the ends are flattened out into different shapes. I could not find them on Harbor Freight web site
Also a quarter inch putty knife and a single edge razor blade
I purchased from Harbor Freight a package of dental tool like picks. The ends of each tool had a different shape . They confirmed to all the nooks and crannies around the trim.
Awesome… Thank you so much for watching this video and of course you know that I mentioned you in the video… I’d love to know the twins that you’re talking about if you don’t mind send me a link to those tools… Do they have orange handles?
Is that the Pierre Frey paper? What width is it and what kind of paste you using? I just hung some Pierre today. Just curious cause they say to use some metalyn powdered paste. Using some roman 880 it's held on so far. Vinyl face with a paper backing. Different. That's for sure
Thanks. I used 234. Yes it’s Pierre Frey.
@@spencercolgan ok thanks. What's the stock like? Paper face? Scrubbable? Or just send me the product info. I'll take a look. always watch your vids and try and learn more. I was hanging some Aloe Citrus.
You are a Master Spencer!
Not really, but I greatly appreciate that
Perfect, Master Spencer! I'm watching your video after 3 years of being published. Thanks for such great tutorial videos!
Thanks for sharing this...
I thought one had to texture the walls before painting. It looks like that step is not necessary. Am I correct? Thanks
CHristopher Walken?....
how to deal with wrinkled wallpaper right out of the roll?
Seriously, I roll the back up and put it back.
Very useful
When using 2 coats and the tape and caulking method, do you have to retape?
Laser straight line….beautiful work. 👍
I love getting paint advice from Christopher Walken!
Without fail I add conditioner to paint when spraying custom builds and woodwork. It had never crossed my mind to add it to emulsion paint for walls. Excellent tip, Spencer. This will REALLY help out on ceilings too.
Graco has a roller feed system accessory that attaches to a paint sprayer and uses the sprayer pressure to feed paint to a special roller cover which has holes in it. When triggering the sprayer handle as you would with spraying, it dispenses paint to the roller and allow you to have a continuous flow. It does take some getting used to and you would need several of the appropriate extensions to get 18’ from the floor, but it does work well especially for speed when doing multiple rooms of the same color (in a production type setting) or when the surface is highly irregular such as with block, stone, brick, etc and you need dense coverage. In this instance you could apply paint to the rate desired and thus reduce running the roller dry or having to reload when it’s to a slight detriment. The roller covers for the Graco have dozens of holes in the cover tube allowing it to flow outwardly onto the nap. You can over dispense so there’s a slight learning curve.
This is very helpful thanks a lot
There is science to everything, so it is to painting too aaaaaand being a true craftsman. A person who loves its job and is proud what he does for living. No channel talks this way about painting or any other trade for that matter. These are true bees-knees people. For DIYers or those who call them self PROs. Don't be THAT 🫵 person and listen up. You will learn for sure. A lot or just a thing or two, but you will learn for sure. Great narration. Not easy to come across with all points and you did it. Even a little opera-like drama does not hurt. LOL Thanks for sharing Spencer. 👍🔥 FYI, not sure if it is just on my end but video switches to super slow speed at 10:04 and goes back to normal at 17:27.
Got a question. when installing a peel and stick wallpaper for a customer but the customer doesnt know if the wall was painted with low or zero voc paint. do you have to wash their wall with 70% alcohol so that it can prevent the wallpaper from falling off over time or its best to repaint with a primer?
Prime with gardz
Another beautiful job….👍👍👍🇨🇦
Thanks for the great paint tips! I feel like as an amateur I should be adding extender to all paints just to compensate for my slowness. I was wondering, could you have gotten the same result by just painting a matte clearcoat over the semigloss? Or would the old roller lines still show through?
Great safe method! Like that family team work. How would you launch by yourself? I will primarly be fishing alone but will take Grandkids out once or twice a year. Would a trolling motor with remote be advised for laughing alone? Great demonstration of laughing your boat. Very helpful demo for us rookies. Thanks
Such a big difference, you truly are a pro at what you do.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make a comment and thanks for watching my channel
What!?!? He says his name is Spencer, but his voice says, “I’m Christopher Walken” Thanks for a great Video. Excellent tips.
lol 😅!!!!
Amazing channel
Looks spot on 👍
What is the best way to fix roping on trim?
I broke mine and all I had to do was come to your page 😂😂😂
when you use the extender can you give the trim 2 coats of paint prior to removing your tape or do you need to remove the tape after the first coat and re apply for the second coat?
Pull the tape after you . Put 2 coats But do not wait for the paint to dry. Pull the final coat in 1 direction. Then pull your tape immediately. Don’t use too much caulk. It will drip.
You made that look easy
This guy
Great job Spencer but OMG my eyes are hurting
More rewarding than handing out a traffic ticket!
Are you taking into account there might be drywall tape and mud (along with the paint) on the inside corners that could give a false 90 degree?
@spencer what if the wallpaper is pulling the drywall off with it
Well thought out and executed... Really well done Spencer
Good tip. I'm about to have a go a papering myself. I've watched a lot of your videos and think I can do it. Wish me luck.
I'd of liked to see how the pattern off the right length matched when it fell into the corner
Yes Phil, sometimes the papering Gods are kind !!
No need to roll out brush marks on a high wall. The higher the wall , the harder it is to see imperfections. But ideally you roll into wet cuts at the top of your wall.
merci
You are a good teacher and I will try to use your instructions to finish my home renovation with the best result possible for an amateur :) Good work!
Do you cut the corners also?
Totally agree, i like it too, nice one spencer
